It's directly applicable to several of my own interests. <BR/><BR/>I think John Paul II's efforts to reconcile the Church with Jews was highly commendable and long overdue. But the whole issue leaves me with serious questions. The most basic is that Catholicism and Judaism are fundamentally irreconcilable, if only because of the central role of Christ as Messiah and savior in Catholic theology. The best than can be done, and what I think has happened, is a rough cobbling together of the two, with a seam that's rough, irregular, and inconsistent. But all things considered, especially the threats we face in the world today, it's a good and practical thing.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
