Mormonism, stereotypes, and popular culture

I must confess my ignorance on this subject, but thought those interested in Mormonism might find it interesting and/or thought-provoking to read this paper, presented at the CESNUR (Center for Studies on New Religions) 2010 conference in Turin by prominent Italian sociologist of religion Massimo Introvigne.

  1. Great fun, good find. I live in Mormon Country, and have lived in Utah. Basically all the West is Mormon Country, so it was great to have this brief literary excursion. Best history of the West and Mormons is "Mormon Country" by Wallace Stegner. The stereotypes are fun, but the history of Mormons and the development of the West is amazing. Still though, an odd religion.
