You may not be interested in war ...

Michael Barone on Benazir Bhutto's Tragic Death:

Her death is a reminder that we really do live in a dangerous world. Pakistan is a nuclear power with a military and a secret service that seem laced with supporters of Islamist terrorism. Many Americans would like to go back on holiday from history. But as Leon Trotsky is supposed to have said, “You may not be interested in war, but war is interested in you.” I suspect that this tragic event will have an effect on the campaign going on so hot and heavy right now in Iowa and New Hampshire.

Che uno non possa occuparsi di tutto, ad esempio tenersi informato, riflettere, confrontare e formarsi opinioni su qualsiasi emergenza, è un fatto di cui occorre farsi una ragione, anche se a volte dispiace molto. Una delle questioni che sicuramente meriterebbero di essere studiate e approfondite accuratamente è l’emergenza rifiuti di quella bellissima regione italiana che è la Campania. Che poi uno, dopo qualche inutile tentativo di capirci qualcosa, si arrenda e aggiunga questa alla lunga lista delle cose di cui ha smesso di occuparsi, è appunto motivo di frustrazione e di rammarico. Poi, d’accordo, c’è una remora che potremmo definire imbarazzo, ma questo è un fatto privato. Comunque ho letto una cosa che mi è sembrata utile: non dico a capire, perché solleva quasi soltanto domande, ma insomma è meglio che niente.
