Yesterday finished reading Rob's Blessed Are theContrarians: Diary of a Journey Through Interesting Times. It's a worthwhile read, and a great reminder of ideas we often neglect in our busy lives. It's good to take some time to review events and ideas, especially with Rob's perspective of a Conservative and Christian. Fewer thinkers like him, especially in secularist Europe, are offering any alternative view of politics, religion, Christianity, literature, and philosophy. What he offers here, all in one place, is something different from the zeitgeist, the meme of the times. His title is apt.  

Being American, we don't get any news from Europe, let alone detailed history and analysis of what's happening there; especially Italy. That section of this book helps get a handle, as much as possible anyway, of how Italy manages to offer so many fine things, even be productive, with such a dysfunctional government. It also helps get a handle on European politics and how the political class there is consolidating power and the conflicts that arise from that.

I've been reading "The Windrose Hotel" for a few years (and am honored beyond words that I can contribute). What drew me to it initially was Rob's sense and sensibility, understanding of, explanation and explication of Augustine. Augustine has always been a tough slog for me, but Rob had, and has, a way of explaining Augustine's ideas that settles well. By the end of reading "Contrarians" I was on Amazon looking at Kindle downloads of Augustine's works. It's a good thing to have those writings all combined in this book; provides a clearer understanding.

There's a lot of coverage of art, something that is totally neglected in this country. Rob provides discussions of great artists, and why they're great, from both art history and personal perspectives. Art here in the US, and art writing, is dreadful.  It's great to have Rob's observations without the snobbishness prevalent here, just the critical eye and heartfelt appreciation.

The last of the book is about our Faith, Christianity. I was both moved and stimulated, and was making notes to myself of things to pursue, teach and write about. 

It's all here, ideas and reality, news and views, art and history, philosophy and perception, politics and religion. Sad that correct thinking is now contrary, but good that Rob's blog and this book makes the contrary accessible and understandable. 

Tipping Point and the Seven Deadly Sins

This week America passed the tipping point. We found out America has moved from a constitutional republic based on moral scriptural values and beliefs, to an America that embraces and promotes the seven deadly sins. We have in Barack Obama and the Democrat Party, their supporters in the Jurassic Press and the trendy popular entertainment media, advocates for  wrath, greed, sloth, pride, lust, envy, and gluttony.

In Obama's closing speeches running up to the election, he exhorted his supporters to vote for revenge, wrath. That he would say such a thing is puzzling since he has been in power for four years, so who is revenge directed toward? Statistism, Marxism, the Left, have been the Establishment since the 1930's, in both politics and culture, yet they still play the oppressed minority. That Obama made the statement indicates he and his Party believe in and practice wrath, even against those they triumph over. There's been a lot of gloating and insulting of Republicans, Conservatives and Christians since election day.

Obama and the Democrat Party advocate greed with their notion of confiscating the wealth from those that are the most productive. An interviewer a few years ago asked Obama, noting that every time tax rates were reduced, revenues to the government went up, why did he still advocate for a higher tax rate for the wealthy? His answer was his standard 'they have to pay their fair share', regardless of the results. They use the concept of fairness, deciding what that is, to line their own pockets, increase their own wealth, at the expense of others.

They promote sloth by their notion of redistributing the wealth, telling people even if they don't work hard enough to get the things they want on their own, the government will make up the difference. The more slothful one is, the increased difference will still be made up, necessitating going back to confiscating yet more from the producers to compensate.

Obama and his fellow Statists promote pride with the notion of self esteem, that one doesn't have to accomplish anything to be proud of oneself. We have students coming out of school barely able to read and write, no knowledge of art, history, literature, mathematics, civics. Students think they know these things, and tests show the opposite. Yet they are still proud of their nonexistent accomplishments.

They promote envy with their constant attack on the successful. Hey, look at that guy, he has more money than me, what an evil and despicable person! Why should he have more than me?

Statists, Leftists, promote lust. Look at all the movies, books, TV shows, and magazines that sex is central. The entertainment "reporters" on the show "TMZ" openly and happily talk about the porn they watch when at one time such things were secretive and hidden, viewing was an embarrassment. Adultery is becoming more acceptable; there's even a social media that helps adulterers hook up.

Lastly, gluttony. The Obama's have spent over a billion dollars on vacations and parties since they've been in office. They eat and feed their supporters large quantities of the finest cuisine, while exhorting others to eat moderately and plainly. They constantly exhort others to do with less, while they ever increase their own consumption.

What was rejected a few days ago by Americans, is the notion we do the best we can for ourselves, for our families and friends, without government intervention, and that there is a tried and true moral and behavioral code over a couple thousand years that lends itself to successful happy people, in turn happy successful communities, in turn nations that receive the blessings of God.

Scripture makes it quite clear with the examples of the Israelites; every time they denied God, turned their back on Him, serious, bad things happened to them.

A few days ago we decided to make it official, and turned our backs to God. We have made the State our religion. 

Oooops, Backfire and Disarray

President Elect Obama created an “Office of the President Elect”, had a seat on his plane with a logo for the imagined office, and spoke with Greek columns as his stage. He promised to be post partisan, post political, post racial, and even slow the rise of the oceans (yes he really said that, there’s a vid).

Instead of lollipops and roses we have our country in an economic death spiral, riots by pampered whiney white kids (Occupy movement), a deepening nasty racial divide, skyrocketing energy costs (done by design, there’s a vid of him saying that too), crony capitalism ($trillions of taxpayer money going to businesses), blatant attacks on Christians, and a culture of intolerance and hate (from the Left) that is promoted by his political party and his propaganda division, the Main Stream Press.

Because of all that, the lollipops have melted and the roses are dead. His shine is off, even with a growing number of the leadership in the Democrat Party, including Bill Clinton several times, criticizing him publicly. Because he’s a Statist ideologue, he can’t, like Bill Clinton did, “triangulate” and change course.

His campaign started with an attack not only on Mitt Romney’s venture capital company, Bain Capital, but on capitalism itself. That caused several prominent Democrat leaders to speak against him. Obama’s team attacked them and made them recant. After his spending $trillions (taxpayer dollars, printed dollars, borrowed dollars from enemies of the US) on businesses, his “investment record” has a massive failure rate. Over 80% of his “loans” to “green energy” companies were to big donors to his campaign. Can’t find the total number of failed companies he “invested” in, but most have failed, and $trillions lost. Bain Capital under the leadership of Romney had only 22% of his investments fail, and he used real money from private citizens.

Then there’s the “Republican’s War on Women”. That isn’t working out so well because most Democrats recently voted for selective sex abortions, very unpopular with citizens. Like Communist China it seems Leftists in this country would abort baby girls until they get a son. (Counter intuitive; if men are so rotten why create more of them by killing baby girls?)  It turns out too that several Democrat women congressional staffers get paid substantially less than men holding the same job. Democrat Senator Patty Murray pays women on her staff about $21,000 less than men. It turns out that women working for Democrat politicians made an average salary of $60,877 in 2011; men made on average $6,500 a year more. Democrats have been unable to pass equal pay acts even when they controlled both houses of congress, and this latest “Paycheck Fairness Act” they brought up just so they could use it as part of their campaign to buttress their claim of Republican’s ‘war on women’.  By the way, analysis that adjusts for such things as hours worked, time taken off and other variables show pay is equal for equal jobs in the private sector. Now the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports there are 766,000 fewer women in the workforce than when he took office. Another backfire for the Obama campaign was his using his attack on the Catholic Church and their opposition to contraception; as that being part of the Republican war on women, was actually perceived by the citizens for what is was, an attack on religion, the Catholic Church, and freedom generally. Who knew the Republican Party controlled the Catholic Church? 

Then the Obama campaign attacked Romney for his employment record when his was governor of Massachusetts; the claim being that he left office with a high unemployment rate. The backfire on that is when Romney left office the Massachusetts unemployment rate was 4 point something percent, and Obama’s unemployment has been 8% - 10% the whole time he’s been in office.

The Obama campaign attacked Romney for being a hypocrite by his attacking the Solyndra failure; Obama lost $millions when the “green” company went under. There was a solar company in Massachusetts, Konarka Technologies that was given a $1.5 million loan two months after Romney was sworn in; he had no part in the loan. Romney also tried to get rid of the state’s “green energy” investment program. Konarka repaid the loan in full. It later went bankrupt, years after Romney left office. In short, Romney had nothing to do with it. Another backfire and oops.

In the recent failed recall election of the Wisconsin Governor and Lieutenant Governor and a few Republican legislators by Leftists, Unions and the Democrat Party, Obama didn’t enter the state and did no campaigning on their behalf. Unions and Wisconsin Democrats are seriously unhappy with him for that. Governor Walker scored a decisive win over them all.  Oooops.    

There was the incident raised by the Obama campaign about how in high school (in the 1960’s! when he was a teenager!) Romney bullied some other kid. Nobody, not even the family and friends of the man (deceased) remember the incident. The family is ticked off because their family member was being used as a political pawn.  Then it turns out in one of his books, Obama wrote about bullying an overweight girl.  Ooops and backfire.

Obama can’t run on his record. He’s tried. He has an ad saying he’s employed over 4 million people in the private sector. All except his hard core supporters recognize that with over eight percent unemployment, 22 million unemployed, it shows this to be a blatant lie and doesn't fly.

When he ran against McCain’s inept campaign, along with the excitement generated by the possibility of our first black president, general well wishing, no record, and not being vetted by the Press, it was all unicorns and rainbows. Now he has a record, has proven incompetent, shows a lack of leadership by blaming his problems on everyone and everything else, has been shown shrewd but not smart, and has a seriously competent campaign running against him. Leaders in his own political party and other Leftists are turning against him. That translates into low Democrat voter turnout. 

Lots of mistakes, lots of backfires, lots of lies, lots of oooops. After his post everything presidency, his opposition is looking forward to him being post president. The Romney campaign, Republicans and Conservatives must, in any case, keep the pressure up, and keep kicking Obama when he’s down.

Game On

The game is on. The Leftist Lie and Hate, Chicago/Alinsky style political campaign swung into the official campaign for Obama’s re-election last Saturday. For those not into the who’s who of American politics, Alinsky (RIP) is the source of political organization for the Left. The holy text for Leftists, and most especially Obama, is his book Rules for Radicals (dedicated to Satan). I was a big fan of Alinsky in my Marxist days. At the core of the rules, is to separate, target, and personally attack the opponent, along with anyone associated with him\her.

The Democrat Party, since the election of Barack Obama, for example, has been incessantly attacking the Koch brothers. They are, quite simply, wealthy Conservative contributors to the Republican Party and associated Conservative candidates and causes. The attacks are scurrilous, vile, and carry not one bit of truth. Their major crime of course, is they are rich. Which is itself rich, since a couple nights ago Obama had a $40,000 a plate fund raising dinner, attended by his Leftist Hollywood groupthink multimillionaire friends and sycophants. So far that dinner has raised $15 million. They hate the rich while hiring legions of accountants and lawyers to shelter their investments and income. Obama hates the rich while taking their money along with Wall Street fat cat’s cash, and Leftist billionaires like Gates and Soros.

An example of the lengths to which the Democrat campaign machine will go utilizing the Alinsky model of personal attack, is the story released about three days ago of Romney in high school, 1965, being a bully. In a breathless exposé, the Leftist Washington Post said Romney bullied some kid, cutting his hair, and something about making anti-homosexual comments. The main source of the story it later turns out, wasn’t even at the alleged event. The man is dead, recently passed, so can’t be interviewed, and his surviving family has no recollection of the event. They’ve asked the re-elect Obama press to stop, there’s no truth to the story, and they don’t want this used as a political weapon. Three days later the story is still front and center.

Meanwhile, Our Dear Leader gets a pass. Here’s what he was doing in high school from his book Dreams of My Father:

"I blew a few smoke rings, remembering those years.  Pot had helped, and booze; maybe a little blow when you could afford it.  Not smack, though.  ..."  … "Junkie.  Pothead.  That's where I'd been headed: the final, fatal role of the young would-be black man."

Obama wrote:

"Except the highs hadn't been about that, me trying to prove what a down brother I was.  Not by then, anyway.  I got high for just the opposite effect, something that could push questions of who I was out of my mind, something that could flatten out the landscape of my heart, blur the edges of my memory.  I had discovered that it didn't make any difference whether you smoked reefer in the white classmate's sparkling new van, or in the dorm room of some brother you'd met down at the gym, or on the beach with a couple of Hawaiian kids who had dropped out of school and now spent most of their time looking for an excuse to brawl.  ...  You might just be bored, or alone.  Everybody was welcome into the club of disaffection." 

Also from the book, Obama relates an incident pushing and shouting at a girl. What a bully! And to a girl! Couldn't even pick on someone his own size! All this gets a pass, that he relates himself, yet an unsubstantiated story from nearly 50 years ago about teenager Romney is still top of the fold after three days in the Jurassic Press.

The Obama administration has zero successes. His “morning in America” commercial talks up his successes such as green energy investment, but $billions have been lost and $millions sent overseas. His commercial says otherwise, but the names of the companies that took taxpayer money and went overseas are public record, as are the names of green companies that have failed. The commercial talks about millions of jobs created and there is zero evidence of this. He touts last month’s drop in unemployment to 8.1%. That’s accounted for by an increase of 522,000 people dropping out of the labor force so far this year. Unemployment benefits were increased to 99 weeks, and the number of jobless citizens keeps increasing. Even illegal’s from Mexico are leaving the job market is so bad. When a person runs out of benefits, they’re not longer counted among the unemployed. There are 88,419,000 unemployed people now. This is the lowest job participation rate since 1981 after Leftist President Carter, doing the same thing Obama is now, tanked the economy.

This whole thing is all about distractions, because this president and his political party have caused the cost of gas and other energy to increase, unemployment to increase, debt to increase, wages to stagnate, investments to stay in a holding pattern. So far the distractions have included gay marriage, Osama bin Laden, student loan interest rates, the Buffett Rule, Trayvon Martin, contraception, right to healthcare, and Romney’s high school pranks. 

I was glad to see Romney respond to a pro-Obama alleged reporter’s questions about all the social issues listed above with, “Aren’t there issues of significance that you’d like to talk about?” Good for him! He must stay on economic and employment issues.

One last thing. About Obama’s “brave” and “historic” coming out in favor of gay marriage. He said in 1996 he was in favor of gay marriage. When he began running for office, especially president, he affirmed the Defense of Marriage Act and the definition of marriage as between a man and a woman. Now he has “evolved”. When a Republican changes his/her position it’s a flip flop and hypocrisy. When His Divine Majesty does it, he “evolves”. There’s cynical political opportunism here too. His announcement was made just before the big Clooney fundraiser, obviously to suck more money out of the groupthink anti-heterosexual marriage/family Leftists (taking advantage here of a Leftist labeling tactic). It’ll be interesting too how this slap in the face to Christians pans out, and how his Islamofacist fellow travelers in Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood respond. (To show how much Obama is in bed with them, he’s appointed a member of the Muslim Brotherhood to Homeland Security; kinda like FDR appointing a Nazi to the Dept of War.)

This is just the start of the battle between the totalitarian objectives of Obama, Democrat Party and other Leftists, and Conservatives and a few leaders in the Republican Party wanting to reassert the US being a free constitutional republic. Romney hasn’t been nominated yet, but PAC’s and SuperPacs are doing okay with the counter attacks to the distractions, personal attacks and lies of the Left.

This may go down as the meanest nastiest presidential election in US history. 

   

The Clash

Today is Palm Sunday, the day when Christians celebrate the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. There are sermons, books and essays on the event seemingly beyond counting, with as many different focuses. One of those observations is this is the event that first marked the clash between Empire and the Kingdom of God, or in more secular terms, between the State and Religion. That first clash got Jesus, a religious man, killed by the State.

It has been so ever since. Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Marx, Engels, all the anti religious leaders and political philosophers since Jesus entered Jerusalem, make it quite clear Jews and Christians must be, if not murdered, at least marginalized for their dictatorships to survive. The killing still goes on in the Middle East on a massive scale, and a smaller scale in China and North Korea. Marginalizing is very strong in Europe and less so here in the US, but increased substantially with the Obama Administration.

It came about with his attack on the Catholic Church with him, the State, mandating they disobey church teaching and law, and obey him or they would be fined, imprisoned or both. This was a heck of a note for the Catholics in this country; they supported his election and the entire top down illegal, unconstitutional rulings that makes the State the arbiter of everything, even religion.

There’s no doubt there’s dishonesty in every politician (probably in each of us, it’s a matter of scale), but this man is a brazen liar, even more than Bill Clinton, to the point he incorporates them into his policies, regulations and presentations to the public. Follow this timeline for this dustup with the Church. When he told the Catholic Church they must deny the centuries old law and tradition of no contraception and must pay for and provide them, and they must also provide and pay for abortions, there was major pushback by citizens and the Church. Even some of his ardent supporters said he had gone too far. His dishonest response was he would make the insurance companies pick up the costs; the Church wouldn’t have to pay anything. Well, somebody will pay for it. Dishonest. Then he and his political operatives said that Christians and the Republican Party are denying women the right to use contraceptives, and are at war with women. Dishonest.

An amazing development is now insurance is supposed to cover the results of sexual activity. ObamaCare is a two birds with one stone scenario; it controls both insurance companies and all issues having to do with one’s body. Used to be insurance was pooling resources for when something went horribly wrong and was costly; the fund for a rainy day. Obama and the Left see having a baby as a horrible catastrophic event apparently. Obama’s statement in 2008:  “ I've got two daughters. 9 years old and 6 years old. I am going to teach them first of all about values and morals. But if they make a mistake, I don't want them punished with a baby.”  Punished with a baby.

All this only marginally has to do with contraception, abortion, the Church, and freedom of religion. Obama and the Left know they must marginalize religious people to move their Statist agenda, deny individual choice and liberty to obtain absolute control. Well, they approve of one choice, to murder babies in the womb.

There was a time when it was mostly a moral compass that guided this country, and individuals. They weren’t perfect times to be sure. In my childhood, house keys were under doormats, thieves knew it, but very rarely used them (one was lesser of a thief?). Keys were left in the ignition when running into a store for a sec to pick up some milk. Kids were safe to play in the front yard. Gas was paid for after it was pumped. All that’s been turned inside out and upside down. We have students thinking cheating is okay. Stealing music through downloads is okay. If you get pregnant it’s okay to take someone else’s money to abort the baby. Now we have a President of the United States, going beyond arrogance, thinking it's okay to lie about anything, anytime to empower the State. At one time even politicians placed some limits on themselves and worked together, understanding there was a moral political compass, and the well being of the county was what mattered. 

Now the view is that since morality is out the window, more laws are needed to replace them. Laws written by egoistic, self promoting, self interested, selfish secularists. 

Recently Obama asked the president of Russia (in an overheard secretive conversation) to give him some space until after the election so he could be more accommodating, “flexible” is the word he used, in his second term. He is so much a liar, he plans how he’s going to lie to citizens in the future. There were uncountable lies about ObamaCare, it being passed in the middle of the night on a national holiday with not one Republican voting for it, and the Speaker of the House saying they have to pass it to know what’s in it. There were so many lies and bribes that it’s now in the Supreme Court; the result of so many lies in one place they could not be contained.

This man’s lies have caused a deeper racial divide, alienated foreign allies, given comfort to enemy States wishing to destroy the US, has caused an energy crises with uncontrollable rising costs to citizens, paying off “green” energy companies that fail and fail and fail (they are massive donors to the Democrat Party and his Campaign, kickbacks of taxpayer money given them), taken and given bribes to the wealthy while denouncing them, and back to the beginning of this post, has attacked religion consciously and with reason. He has divided everyone, and now our country is in a civil war; religion, morality, the Church, individual liberty, vs Obama and the Lefts’ campaign of violence (the Occupy Movement is still clashing with police, women are still being raped, babies are still being abandoned, people are still being beaten and murdered), deception, brazen lies and the denial of individual liberty.   

"In Essentials Unity, In Non-Essentials Liberty, In All Things Charity" ~~Rupertus Meldenius. Obama, Leftists, and the Democrat Party have turned this most profound observation into ‘in essentials division, in non-essentials what the State says it wants, and in charity there will be none unless approved by and filtered through the State’. The word charity in the quote is often translated as love. Have you ever known a government to love? Have you ever felt love from a politician or government bureaucrat? But I’ve felt the love of the Church, of co-religionists, of fellow worshippers, of God. I will always fall on the side of the Man on the donkey, and lay my cloak before Him, never on the side of the dictator that thinks he is a god.     

Elections, Corruption, Predictions

In his latest puff piece interview with Steve Croft on the program “60 Minutes”, President Obama claimed there were only three presidents greater than him, Lincoln, FDR and Johnson, i.e., he’s the forth greatest president ever. On the flip side, Jimmy Carter, who gave us double digit inflation and unemployment, may correctly say he’s no longer the worst president ever, that mantle has been assumed by Obama.

One would think it impossible, after noting the items mentioned below, that there’s no way Obama can get reelected. Traditionally, a president entering the election cycle with a positive rating under 50% (Obama between 43% and 47%) and employment over 6% (now 8.6%) is sure to loose. Obama has reported a $billion in his campaign war chest, and the Main Stream Media  will again actively campaign for him; 47% of citizens are not paying income tax, and 51% of American households are receiving some sort of largess from the government. They have a vested interest keeping the status quo. About 43% of citizens will vote for Obama and the Democrat Party ticket no matter what. He only needs 3% or 4% more to get enough electoral votes to win.

Hopefully, and it’s a great unfounded hope, the weak, stupid and cowardly Republican Party leadership will mount a campaign exposing the truth of this Marxist president that ignores the Constitution.

Since Obama became president, our national debt has increased by 4 $Trillion. He asked for, a couple weeks ago, to raise the debt limit again by another $Trillion (temporarily put on hold for political reasons). Every American citizen is in debt $48,705 as a result. The first two years of his administration, both houses of the legislature were controlled by his political party, and they got two of his major bits of legislation passed, the stimulus package and Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare). Stimulus package money went primarily to State employees, which are unionized, which means a lot of that money went to the unions, which in turn went to the Democrat Party and Obama. A nice money laundering scheme paid for by the taxpayers. One would think such a thing illegal. Guess not. Obamacare was passed near midnight on Christmas Eve. Not one Republican, even RINO’s (Republican in Name Only) voted for it. Two of the three years Obama and his party controlled government, yet three years in they still blame Bush, Republicans and the TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Party for the financial and employment woes of this country. That's what weak leaders do, blame their predecessors rather than take responsibility for the results of their decisions. 

There have been a lot of scandals, especially this past year, perpetrated by this administration, barely or not mentioned by the Main Stream Press. Obama and the Democrats are hell bent on destroying the energy sector of our economy. Since the disaster in the Gulf, permits for new drilling have been denied; this is against the law and is un-Constitutional. All coastal oil production has been shut down. Mining for coal has been massively slowed down because new environmental regulations have made it too costly for many mining companies to continue. Domestic oil production on land has been shut down. We have more oil and gas reserves than Saudi Arabia; we can be mostly energy independent if we so choose. He denied the Keystone oil pipeline from Canada, which would reduce energy costs and create about 20,000 US jobs, plus support jobs to those. What few factories are still in production are shutting down because of new environmental regulations. Jobs moving offshore are increasing because of increasing costs. GE was paid $Millions to create jobs. They are. In China.

This is so Obama can pay off his paymasters and contributors in the “Green” industries. Solyndra, a "green" company received half a $billion even when it was known by Obama it wasn’t a viable company. They went bankrupt, and the American taxpayers are out half a $billion. This whole thing is under investigation by the FBI. At this point, I’ll just start listing a few scandals, because even mention of some of the particulars of each would take up thousands of words and hours of reading. A more comprehensive accounting here. There’s  LightSquared involving Administration pressure on a couple Generals to perjure themselves before Congress and $millions in payoffs. There’s Fast and Furious where the Obama Administration sold guns to Mexican cartels that have resulted in several hundred deaths of Mexican citizens and a US Border Patrolman. There are thousands of waivers to companies and States to not have to pay for ObamaCare; they are all political payoffs. The States that got waivers are all Democrat controlled. That's okay, Republican controlled states will cover the cost! We have a racist Black US Attorney General that refuses to prosecute African Americans. By the way, it's now politically incorrect to call Black people Black. Go figure. I'm a frequent visitor to an African American (Black) blog where it's okay to use the term "whitey" and say all Republicans are racists. Of course that's not a double standard. What are you thinking? 

Obama signed into law on New Year’s Eve the National Defense Authorization Act, allowing the government to detain US citizens without due process; approved by the knuckleheads that objected to the Patriot Act’s horrendous (they claimed) violation of civil liberties because the government could request from libraries what books someone checked out, or to follow the money of suspected terrorists, or trace overseas phone calls of suspected terrorists.  Also to start off the year he said he’s cutting the US military by half a million personnel, creating yet more unemployed people in a horrible economy he’s created while decimating the military he hates. He also started the year appointing four of his cronies that are supposed to be approved by the Senate. He claimed they were recessed and so he was making these as part of his Executive Powers. Problem is, Congress was not in recess. 

A note, no segue, about the “Occupy Wall Street” movement. It’s supported by Islamists, Communists, and Unions; was formed and is controlled top down. It’s supported and endorsed by Obama and the Democrat Party. When the TEA Party, a true grass roots movement was being effective, by organizing and voting, nonviolently, they were called violent and fascists. The “Occupy” knuckleheads want to control the media, confiscate the wealth of producers, imprison those that disagree with them, and have all debts absolved; that sounds like fascism to me. As to violence, none of which happened at any TEA Party meeting unless created by a union thug, here’s a brief summary of “Occupiers” rap sheet:

- 9 deaths, 5 found dead in tents, One found dead after 2 days

- 2 murders

- Tens of millions of dollars in damages, layoffs, vandalism, law breaking

- Multiple Rapes

- Thousands of arrests

- Public masturbation

- Feces

All pretty much ignored by the Democrats and their propaganda mouthpiece, the Main Stream Media.

The point of this is we have the most corrupt administration since FDR, a man that as a matter of principle and policy is set out to destroy this Constitutional Republic, a Marxist ideologue that hates free enterprise and entrepreneurship, the US Military, and the Constitution. He’s a full blown racist that has caused more racial tension than has been seen since the 1960’s. He did make a campaign promise, to “fundamentally” change America. He’s being successful.

Being a new year, some predictions. Romney will win the Republican nomination for President. He’s a RINO, but at worst is infinitely better than Marxist Racist anti-Semite Islamist Obama. Republicans will gain at least 3 seats in the Senate and gain control of it. The House will remain in the control of Republicans. Expect Obama and Democrats to play the race card massively during the campaign. This will be the meanest, most vile and disgusting presidential campaign in US history. Obama has no record of any success to run on, so he has no choice but to convince Citizens that the alternative is worse. That can only be accomplished by a campaign of hate, lies and corruption.

America is at a crossroads. Liberty or Tyranny. We’ll know November 7th.

President Obama and the Democrats continue to blame America’s
economic woes on George Bush even though their Party controlled both houses of Congress for most of the 20^th century, with a couple years spread out here and there for the Republicans. The first two years of this administration Congress was controlled completely by the Democrats. Together they increased our debt by about $4 trillion dollars. Right now we are $15,000,000,000,000 in debt. That puts every man, woman and child in America $47,835 in debt. That doesn't include $100 trillion in unfunded liabilities, the things the Federal Government has taken off the books and say the States or someone has to pay for. They’re all in massive debt too, and unable to pay.

Obama did a big “pass this now” jobs bill. It didn’t pass the Democrat controlled Senate. A second try was made last week, and again it was not passed by the Democrat controlled Senate. Yet on the campaign trail promoting his jobs bill, he blamed the Republicans. Really and truly. The lowest sort of blame came from Vice President Joe Biden, who said not passing the bill would mean there would be an increase in rapes and murders, and it would be the Republican’s fault. Other leaders in the Democrat Party are repeating this disgusting lie and line. Shameless.

A couple months ago some college students and aging hippies got together to protest Wall Street and corporations. They are financed and organized by media outlets, unions and the socialist movement. They call themselves the 99%. They made some bad life choices, or are just lazy, and want the 1% to pay for it. The “Occupy Wall Street” protests popped up in several cities and have gotten massive positive coverage. There have been beatings, thefts, rape, public nudity and sexual activity, clashes with the police, violence and hundreds of arrests. People are defecating in public, including on police cars and the American flag. Pedophiles are exposing themselves to children. (What are kids doing there?) They wear the latest threads provided by corporations, using millions of dollars of the latest technology made by corporations. Now at the protest sites rats are breeding like, well, rats, and the health hazard is becoming extreme. The Left is anti-Semitic, and the signs along with anti-Jewish rants bear it out. It’s been a dirty little secret for years. It’s still being covered up by the Jurassic Press. Its racism bubbled up at the Portland protest when a black man was called a n****er by several of the protesters.

Support for these non-producers comes not only from the Main Steam Media, but elite socialists in the hated 1%. Russell Simmons is a multimillionaire that has several businesses, including a high interest credit card (how capitalist can you get), is a 1 per center that supports the movement. Fat cat propagandist Michael Moore, emphasis on fat, is worth several $million; as are the Obama’s, Bill Clinton, George Soros, Susan Sarandon and most of the Hollywood elites. If anything, why aren’t multimillionaire actors that make mostly bad movies, shelter their earnings to reduce their tax rate, being protested? They're in the 1%. Other supporters of the movement include the fascist Iranian government, Communist Party USA, Socialist Party of America, the Nazi Party of America; the Russian Kleptocrats lead by Putin, and the Democrat Party.

All the nastiness, hatred, violence, anti-Semitism, and racism is being glossed over by reporters in the Main Stream Media. Conversely, what’s reported about the TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Party is they are racist and violent, even though there is no evidence of either. The only violence that occurred was when union thugs showed up at rally’s and town hall meetings and tried to start fights. TEA Party members and supporters met with elected "servants of the people" at town hall meetings, didn’t like what they heard, and went to the polls and voted many of them out; legally, nonviolently and constitutionally. The Wall Street protesters are advocating the destruction of our economic system and the overthrow of our constitutional republic to be replaced by a socialist state. About a third of them advocate for the violent overthrow of the government.

Going back to the top of this post, we have an incompetent president that was elected to the highest office in the land with no business or government executive experience. He's had an easy life of people just giving him everything he wanted. He was raised by communists and racists. He went to church that worshipped at the altar of racism and materialist Marxism, not the altar of God. His two self aggrandizing books are peppered with racist statements. He claimed to be a constitutional professor but was only a guest lecturer. He was editor of a college publication, but never wrote an article. He’s never released his grades like every president before him. (As an aside, the Press kept claiming John Kerry was smarter than GW Bush. Bush had higher grades, an advanced degree, and was a fighter pilot. Kerry ran a little boat on a river, a job that a chief petty officer could do.) Obama never had a job, never met a payroll, never governed a state, and never ran a business. In both state and US senates he mostly voted ‘present’.

Yet the theme presented by the Jurassic Press about the Republican candidates is that they are lacking and not ready for the presidency. There’s a fighter pilot governor in Rick Perry who's economic policies created a pro-business environment resulting in the creation of most of the jobs in the United States the past few years. A hugely successful businessman, a guy that pulled the winter Olympics out of certain failure into a success, and a governor in Mitt Romney. A successful lawyer and business woman in Michelle Bachman, and a successful businessman in Herman Cain. Newt Gringrich may be the smartest politician alive, and all the Left can do is personally attack him because they’re unable to successfully debate him. Yet all these people are less qualified than Obama? Look where that’s gotten us.  

American Labor Day and Our Anti-Jobs President

This weekend is a holiday weekend, Labor Day, created to recognize working people’s accomplishments. Moving from an agricultural economy to an industrial one in the late 1800’s created a clash between people doing the work and management. Unions were formed and battles between police and workers were violent and there were a lot of people killed. President Grover Cleveland sought to reduce the conflict with the creation of Labor Day. This is an oversimplified history since it’s not the point of this post. More on the particulars here. 

The big discussion this weekend is a President whose Marxist economic policies have been not only a failure, but a disaster; so much so his Leftist supporters are voicing buyers’ remorse. The jobs news released this past Friday showed zero job growth. Polls show about two-thirds of citizens disapprove of his handling of the economy. Even his own administration released a report stating they expected the economy to grow at a rate of 1.7% through next year. With an unemployment rate of 9%, other economists think the 1.7% is optimistic.

Obama and the Democrats controlled Congress and the Executive branch for the first two years of his administration, meaning they controlled the purse strings. Congress is required by law to pass a budget, and didn’t do so for two years. When the Republicans were elected to gain control of the House of Representatives last year, they proposed several budgets, all rejected by the Administration and Democrats. The Senate, still controlled by Democrats still have not passed, let alone proposed, a budget as required by law, going on to two and a half years. The media and Leftist meme is Republicans are obstructionists. Go figure. Democrats reject everything and refuse to negotiate, ignore the law, and the Republicans are the obstructionists, the bad guys.

 We have had Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) at the end of the Bush administration, that Obama voted for and conservatives were against, that had no effect other than lining the pockets of Wall Street fat cats and CEO's with taxpayer money. When Obama came to office he forced through a stimulus package of about a $tillion and most of it went to state workers, most of whom belong to unions, and little went to the private sector. Most of the private sector companies were “green” and most have failed since after blowing through $millions with no accountability. The money going to state union workers found its way back to the unions that in turn funneled the money back to Obama’s campaign war chest (estimated to be approaching a $billion) and funding the Democrat Party. That’s nothing short of a money laundering operation using taxpayer dollars. Then another $trillion in a second stimulus package was passed, again without Republican support, and the same thing was done. Now Obama and the Democrats are advocating for a third stimulus package. It’s doubtful this one will pass because the Democrats no longer control both houses of Congress. This will be reported as the Republicans are obstructionists that want to increase unemployment, starve old people, put children on the street, create more homeless, cause more pollution, and all the rest. Nevermind that three times infusion of taxpayer money into the economy has failed.

We haven’t decided whether Obama is deliberately destroying the economy (he campaigned on ‘fundamentally transforming America’) or he’s just stupid. We do know he’s a Leftist ideologue and truly believes confiscating the earnings of producers and giving to non-producers (47% of Americans don’t pay income tax) is the way to go, despite the empirical evidence of a 100% failure rate 100% of the time the idea has been applied all throughout history.  

Where We Can't Drill for Oil

This is an anti-jobs President. He has illegally shut down drilling in the Gulf since the spill there, throwing thousands out of work. He’s had his environmental agency pass such restrictive regulations that coal mines are shutting down because they can’t meet the costs, throwing more thousands out of work. He shut down all coastal oil drilling, all new conventional drilling, and all oil shale production, denying jobs to thousands of people. It has also driven up the cost of energy causing a massive budget crunch for citizens. Nearly all taxpayer paid for “green” jobs have gone out of business or moved overseas. $billions have been lost and yet more workers are unemployed. The ObamaCare health plan is causing additional massive disruptions of employment and costs to citizens, and it's not even fully implemented yet.

He will be addressing Congress this coming week about job creation. Guaranteed he’ll talk about the need to raise taxes, the need for another stimulus package (different words will be used, “stimulus” has become a negative after two failures), more spending on infrastructure (already failed twice), and more regulations. Regarding regulations, so many have been passed by his administration, businesses have quit hiring or are going out of business because they can’t afford to implement them. More thousands of jobs lost.

The answer of course is what always works. Reduce taxes. The more  of their own money people have to spend, the more they’ll purchase, the more they purchase the more jobs are created to meet the demand, the more people working means more tax payers, means more tax revenue created. Roll back spending to at least 2008 levels. There’s what’s known as the 1% solution that after the rollback, cut 1% spending each following budgets. That shouldn’t be hard even for congress critters. Reduce regulations. The costs of implementation kills business growth. Open up drilling and oil shale production creating thousands of jobs and reducing the costs to families of high energy costs (increasing discretionary spending which creates more jobs), and as a side benefit reduce dependence on foreign oil from countries that want to destroy America. Let the coal mines that have been shut down by this administration reopen, further driving down energy costs. Lastly, repeal ObamaCare.    

It’s sad that on a day we’re to be celebrating workers’ contributions, we have a president and political party hell bent on creating unemployment. 

Deconstructing Independence on Independence Day

This weekend we celebrate the independence of America, specifically marking it by the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Lip service is given to it by many, but what emanates from it is the U S Constitution. For the five to six thousand years of civilization before 1776, humankind's evolution was slow and horrible. Not much was accomplished under the tyranny of kings and emperors. Since the creation of the U S Constitution, we have accomplished more, in technology, wealth, religion and liberty than the whole of history before. The Constitution is under direct and deadly attack by the Left; yet they will pretend to celebrate freedom from tyranny this weekend with the rest of us that truly embrace liberty.  

During the healthcare debate in 2009, then House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was asked by a reporter where in the Constitution it authorized Congress to mandate that citizens buy health insurance, her response was “Are you serious?”  Democrat from South Carolina Rep. James Clyburn: “There’s nothing in the Constitution that says that the federal government has anything to do with most of the stuff we do.”

Democrat Congressman Phil Hare on the Constitution

In the past couple years Conservatives have tried to pass a rule that any legislation brought up has to state where in the Constitution it allows them to pass that law. It’s been rejected every time by Democrats and RINO’s (Republican In Name Only).

“Time” magazine had a cover story asking about the Constitution, “Does It Still Matter?” (Rob posted about this in the entry below.) Time's managing editor, Richard Stengel: "To me the Constitution is a guardrail. It's for when we are going off the road and it gets us back on. It's not a traffic cop that keeps us going down the center." Interpreted this is that the Constitution means whatever the Left wants it to mean. Jefferson: "a mere thing of wax in the hands of the judiciary which they may twist and shape into any form they please."

Which is just what the Left wants. They can’t gain full power if they obey the “enumerated rights” specified in the document. Jefferson again:  "Our peculiar security is in possession of a written Constitution. Let us not make it a blank paper by construction. ... If it is, then we have no Constitution. ... [T]o consider the judges as the ultimate arbiters of all constitutional questions ... would place us under the despotism of an oligarchy. ... In questions of power, then, let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution."

Stengal makes this incredible observation: "If the Constitution was intended to limit the federal government, it sure doesn't say so. Article I, Section 8, the longest section of the longest article of the Constitution, is a drumroll of congressional power." I don’t know what he’s reading, but that article states specifically what the government is allowed to do, and is allowed to do no more. The Left, enemies of the Constitution, attacks it by ignoring what it says, and then says it says something else. James Madison: "The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State governments are numerous and indefinite. The former will be exercised principally on external objects, as war, peace, negotiation, and foreign commerce; with which last the power of taxation will, for the most part, be connected. The powers reserved to the several states will extend to all the objects which, in the ordinary course of affairs, concern the lives, liberties, and properties of the people, and the internal order, improvement and prosperity of the State."

Obama ran on the notion that he was going to “fundamentally transform” America. That can only be done by ignoring the Constitution, which he swore to uphold when he took the oath: "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States." He has ignored the law. He declared a moratorium on offshore drilling after the oil spill and kept it in effect. Several courts have said this is unconstitutional, so he instructed his energy czar to not issue any permits to drill. Several courts have said Obamacare in unconstitutional because it forces citizens to buy a product provided by the private business sector. He’s not put that legislation on hold until the issue is brought before the Supreme Court, he keeps enforcing it. He’s gone to war (Libya) without Congressional approval. Just some examples. We essentially have an anti-Constitutional, lawless president, supported by a Media and political party that states the Constitution is nonbinding and meaningless.

Another attack on the Constitution was made by Leftist Washington Post writer Ezra Klein: “The issue with the Constitution is not that people don’t read the text and think their following. The issue with the Constitution is that the text is confusing because it was written more than a hundred years ago and what people believes it says differs from person to person.” The Constitution of course was written over two hundred years ago.

His statement means to, proving absurdity by showing absurdity, is that we can’t understand anything written by Adam Smith, Shakespeare,  Tolstoy, Dickens, Emerson…you get the picture. Klein interpreted means that stupid Conservatives don’t understand that Constitution is designed to implement a Socialist State.

This 4^th of July, our Independence Day, as much as I’ll celebrate our freedom, I’ll worry over how far down the road we are to the shredding of the Constitution and becoming Obama’s and the Democrat Party’s vision of a “transformed” America. The move toward Statism has been slow, taking a couple hundred years, but Leftists are poised to kill liberty by the last triumphal act of shredding the Constitution. This is the last thing they need to impose their rule. I suppose then we can rename Independence Day, Government Day.

Our Memorial Day

This Monday is a national day of remembrance for US military Soldiers, Marines, Airmen and Sailors that have given their lives in defense of this country and freedom. Memorial Day should have a sense of the sacred, but for most it’s the weekend of barbeques and beer, the weekend that officially kicks off summer, and the weekend of sales. I don’t know how many man in the street interviews I’ve seen that the interviewee has no idea what this holiday is about. This day, not to be chauvinist, is a day that anyone living in a free country should observe and honor the US Military.

The day itself started out as a commemoration of those that died in our Civil War, and was call ‘Decoration Day’. Since then over a million American servicemen have paid for defending freedom with their lives.

The kind of men these are was best summed up by General Douglas MacArthur at an address he gave in 1962 at the U.S. Military Academy:

"Their story is known to all of you. It is the story of the American man at arms. My estimate of him was formed on the battlefields many, many years ago and has never changed. I regarded him then, as I regard him now, as one of the world's noblest figures -- not only as one of the finest military characters, but also as one of the most stainless. His name and fame are the birthright of every American citizen. In his youth and strength, his love and loyalty, he gave all that mortality can give. He needs no eulogy from me, or from any other man. He has written his own history and written it in red on his enemy's breast."

 "In twenty campaigns, on a hundred battlefields, around a thousand campfires, I have witnessed that enduring fortitude, that patriotic self-abnegation and that invincible determination which have carved his statue in the hearts of his people. From one end of the world to the other, he has drained deep the chalice of courage. As I listened to those songs in memory's eye, I could see those staggering columns of the First World War, bending under soggy packs on many a weary march, from dripping dusk to drizzling dawn, slogging ankle deep through mire of shell-pocked roads; to form grimly for the attack, blue-lipped, covered with sludge and mud, chilled by the wind and rain, driving home to their objective, and for many, to the judgment seat of God. I do not know the dignity of their birth, but I do know the glory of their death. These are exceptional people, I knew them when I served, and saw them killed in firefights, and wept at their funerals. In those years we had the draft, and draftees served with the same commitment as those that volunteered. Now our military is all volunteers and are making the same incredible sacrifices. It deeply saddens me that so many in this country do not honor them, and so many, including our president, have contempt for them. (One piece of evidence, among many, of that statement about our president, is his refusal, so far, to participate in the traditional presidential Memorial Day ceremonies.)

Ronald Reagan on this day in 1962:

"I have no illusions about what little I can add now to the silent testimony of those who gave their lives willingly for their country. Words are even more feeble on this Memorial Day, for the sight before us is that of a strong and good nation that stands in silence and remembers those who were loved and who, in return, loved their countrymen enough to die for them. Yet, we must try to honor them not for their sakes alone, but for our own. And if words cannot repay the debt we owe these men, surely with our actions we must strive to keep faith with them and with the vision that led them to battle and to final sacrifice."

  "Our first obligation to them and ourselves is plain enough: The United States and the freedom for which it stands, the freedom for which they died, must endure and prosper. Their lives remind us that freedom is not bought cheaply. It has a cost; it imposes a burden. This day, for me, I honor not only those million plus servicemen that have fallen protecting our freedoms, not only of America, but every nation now free, but the personal loss of those I knew, that fell.

Breakin' the Law

Last year the Democrats controlled the legislature and executive branches and did not pass a budget as required by law. That left the Republicans with the task of passing that budget for the rest of the fiscal year (the result of the elections which gave them control of the House). We are $14 trillion in debt; that’s $45,000 for every man, woman and child in this country. Republicans tried to curb some of the spending and the result was the usual Leftist rap, Republicans want to steal from the poor (how does one take from those that don’t have?), starve children, send old people out into the streets to eat dog food and die and all the rest. They actually say those things seriously, and this is just for reducing the rate of growth of governmental spending, not actual cuts.

Most significantly about all this, is the lawlessness of the Democrats, and most especially this president. In the final budget that was just passed to complete fiscal year 2011, was Section 2262, which defunds many “adviser” positions Obama has created in the executive branch. These “czars” are not vetted by Congress, and are not Executive Branch positions; they are the crony’s of Obama, and not answerable to anyone but Obama. These are the full blown communists and extremist “greens” that would not pass a congressional vetting. In response to this, Obama wrote in his signing statement:

“The President has well-established authority to supervise and oversee the executive branch, and to obtain advice in furtherance of this supervisory authority,” he wrote. “The President also has the prerogative to obtain advice that will assist him in carrying out his constitutional responsibilities, and do so not only from executive branch officials and employees outside the White House, but also from advisers within it. Legislative efforts that significantly impede the President’s ability to exercise his supervisory and coordinating authorities or to obtain the views of the appropriate senior advisers violate the separation of powers by undermining the President’s ability to exercise his constitutional responsibilities and take care that the laws be faithfully executed.”

…the executive branch will construe section 2262 not to abrogate these Presidential prerogatives.”

In other words, he will not abide by the legislation.

This is his way. After the oil drilling disaster in the Gulf of Mexico last year, he declared a moratorium on drilling there. He's continued that moratorium and has refused to issue any more drilling permits. Two federal judges have ruled this is against the law, and he’s ignored the rulings.  

He’s refused to protect the borders as is required by law. As a result US citizens living along the Mexican\US border are getting murdered, raped and robbed. Arizona decided to enforce federal law and Obama sued the state.

Two federal judges have ruled that his health care bill, passed around midnight on Christmas\Christmas Eve last year (only Democrats voting for it), unconstitutional. He’s ignored the rulings and has continued to implement the program. Leading up to the vote, he spent an estimated $200 million of taxpayer money to advertise the benefits of the Affordable Health Care Act (aka ObamaCare), and is still spending. This is an illegal use of taxpayer money.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA, department of the executive branch) has been and is paying the American Lung Association (ALA) to finance campaigns against Republican legislators that vote to curtail the power of the EPA. This is illegal. The EPA creates regulations and fees that are in fact legislation and taxes, which is illegal.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC), another executive branch department, recently passed regulations and fees regarding the internet, in violation of a federal judicial ruling last year confirming the FCC has no jurisdiction regarding the internet. This is an illegal action.  

During the last election, racist Black Panthers stood outside an election site with clubs and made threatening gestures at white voters; caught on video. US Attorney General Eric Holder (a black man) has refused to press charges of this violation of civil and voting rights laws because of the Black Panthers race. (Several staff of the Department of Justice have quit because Holder does not allow prosecution of blacks.) The Department of Justice is in the Executive Branch. This is illegal.   

These are the most blatant violations of the law this president has engaged in. These violations have the support of the mainstream media, the Democrat Party, most federal employees, and the unions. We can only hope the American people wake up enough by election time to realize we have a criminal president; that and his running the economy into the ground with his Marxist principles will hopefully oust this regime.
