Siena is over the top

According to a survey by the Italia Oggi daily newspaper Siena is the best Italian city for quality of life. The survey is based on eight factors, which have equal weight:

a) jobs/business life
b) environment / green living
c) crime
d) social problems
e) population
f) services
g) leisure
h) living standards

The Tuscan hill town is known worldwide for its wonderful twelfth-fourteenth century cathedral as well as for its shell-shaped Piazza del Campo, where the Palio is held twice a year.

Unfortunately for the Florentines—Siena has always been a fierce rival of Florence since the days of the Guelphs and Ghibellines and the battle of Montaperti (1260)—the survey held “soccer” in low esteem: Fiorentina has seven points advantage over the rival in the Serie A ranking table, while curiously Siena is seven places ahead of Florence in the quality of life ranking (I suppose this might mean something to someone, somewhere …).

  1. I confess I don't quite understand these statistics. Rome leaped from 58th to 29th and is ahead of Milan. Seems such a great success but I confess I didn't feel any recent improvement, plus many cities in the South (where I go often for my work) seem to me to be ideal from many points of view (refinements, food, wine, tranquillity etc.) but scored poorly. Did they consider for example that in the South prices for everything are almost half compared to the North?

Maybe the guys at Italia Oggi are missing some point.

Maybe you are right, Man of Roma, maybe not. As for Rome, I couldn't tell, but as for the "many cities in the South" I suspect that some of the above factors might have been very "heavy."

  3. www.italy-revealed is saying

The quality of this kind of research is always difficult to determine.

But the fact that Siean is one of the best town in Italy to live in is easily understandable.

Tuscany is the right mix between jobs and business opportunities typical of the north and nature, enviroment, cost of living and lifestyle of the south
